grassroots women participation in elective positions

Kenya is one of the country that has more than 10 political parties. As at May, 2021, there were seventy-three (73) fully registered political parties in Kenya.  unfortunately majority have more men in leadership   despite the 2/3 gender rule/ where at least 1/3 of either gender must be represented. one of the reason why women do not get into political parties leadership harassment.   Women  often  are the subject of gender-based propaganda,  their “sexual morality” called into question, and sometimes face economic hardship as a result of boycotts and harassment of their business associates. Nonetheless,  there are several lessons for improving the opportunities and capabilities of women to compete in politics in the future.

i feel indebted that i must do something to ensure myself or another woman from my locality must vie for a political seat in order to influence some of the things we have been struggling with in my community concerning women.  For many years we been advocating for gender equality.  however, gender based violence is rising denying women many opportunities, our girls are becoming mothers at teenage ages, married off before they are adults and lack economic power.  i have started a journey and joined other like minded women, we are galvanizing our selves to end sexual gender based violence  and promote women participation in elective political positions in  my community. we have a movement to sensitize women on the importance of political participation in our country. Having majority women as legislators  will be a turn around in political violence and steer the wheel of gender equality. join us amplify our course.
