Elewa haki (Know Your Right) The aim of this program is to use an innovative model with a low cost communication network to empower young women and girls by connecting them to high-quality news and information about issues on women rights and rights violation which bring about inequality. The project purpose is to address issues of Gender based violence (GBV) which is the greatest source of gender inequality and a great setback for women socio-economic development. Several components are used to reach out to women and girls The project educate and raise awareness among women, girls and transgender people on human rights and provide channels for protecting and demanding justice where their rights have been violated.  The project uses offline community GBV forums as well use media as the main channel to educate the aforesaid groups through digital media organizations which will include; innovative Facebook TV, twitter handle, What App groups, recorded campaign videos, campaign arts and SMS messages. In addition, using a mobile platform the project provides these groups with an anonymous reporting systems to report any form of violence against them. HELP LINE numbers are shared with the women using the foresaid media channels. like our FB page link below

thank you Jill my friend. the project has picked and on 10th of September 2019 at 2:00 -3:00 pm we shall have a forum on GBV laws in Kenya and religion. it shall be live on YAWI facebook page.
on our twitter handle we have reached to more than 2000 people, on FB 1800 on what up is quite a challenge for our target groups because some lack smart phones to share messages. we shall be airing some programs on a local radio station by December. i will keep you posted.

Hello Fidelity,
Thank you for sharing the innovative Elewa haki project with us. Gender Based Violence has become a menace putting the life of women at risks. Hoping that many women in Kenya will be able to access the app and that urgent actions taken on the reports.

true GBV is an issue in Kenya now. Every day cases of defilement, rape, femicide are reported. yes we are reaching to many women and girls online and we hope in the next three years we hit our target of 1million women online who can identify with YAWI and GBV online. sure we shall be sharing more including a very close activity taking place on 10th September 2019. like our FB and you can get updates every now and then. our twitter handle is @YawiKenya

Hi Fidelis,
What a tremendous experience for everyone who is able to attend these, and/or connect through various ways. Online, at meetings, reporting systems, HELP lines. I love that what is happening to women and girls globally, is so strongly spoken aloud. The photos tell it beautifully, too.
