Disability and COVID 19

I got up one morning and heard "Corona virus". What is this? I wandered.before I could understand it I heard of serious preventive measures.wash your hands regularly with soap and water, use alcohol based sanitizers as often, wear face mask and keep social distancing.wow really great measures.Until I worked with the coordinating unit of associations of persons with disabilities in Bamenda.who has imagined how possible it is for them to implement these measures since they depend so much on assitive divises , personal assistants and objects for their movements.how do you explain COVID 19 to someone who is intellectually impaired or someone with down syndrome or autism? So many things came to my mind.

Hello Carine,
It is so true that our governments repeatedly give out notices without the care to really pay attention to what help and information people with disabilities really need. Your questions are an important call for us all to pay attention to what is being done for people with special needs. Your work is so important.
A big welcome to World Pulse!

It is very sad that our government hasn't done enough as far as COVID-19 is concerned but we must continue, in our little ways, to create awareness.

Hello, Carine,

Welcome to World Pulse! What a joy that a new voice from Cameroon is rising up.

Your question about explaining COVID-19 to those with special needs is valid. We can explain it as simple as possible. It could be through drawing, watching an illustration, or any other forms that is easy for them to understand.

Please continue writing! We love to get to know you more.

Welcome again to our growing sisterhood!
