International day of the midwife

A baby's cry is both the mothers dream and that of the midwife. My interest in midwifery came as a result of my mum's death. She died so many years ago from PPH(post partum haemorrhage) excessive bleeding occuring after childbirth.  Her death had so much effect on me while growing up, as the first daughter, I had to learn about newborn care at a tender age, it inspired me to learn more about pregnancy, childbirth, post partum care and newborn care.

I became a registered midwife in 2015, I still remembered the first delivery I took without hand gloves... that memory is still fresh in my heart and it's a story I'll share much later.

Pregnancy and childbirth is the most critical stage in a woman's life and that of her family. No woman should die while bringing another to the world. According to WHO maternal mortality ratio in Nigeria is 814 in 100,000 live births _ _ _ _ _   _ _ _ _ _ _    _ _ _ _ _ _   _ _ _ _ _

5th of May every year, midwives around the world celebrate international day of the midwife. Midwives in Nigeria has done so much to curb maternal and newborn deaths.  The theme of this year's celebration is "invest in midwives"

I advocate for investment in quality midwifery care around the world.

I advocate that men should be involved totally throughout the stages of pregnancy, labour, delivery and post partum care. _ _ _ _ _     _ _ _ _ _ _ _    _ _ _ _ _ _

A big shout out to all dedicated and passionate midwives too numerous to mention. God bless us all❤️
