EMBRACE THE WEB

If we want to improve ourselves, we have no choice than to embrace the web and educate others to achieve same. They may not recognize the need on their own, but I will plot the way. I know women are very busy but we need to find time to browse. We can put hours in at weekends and evenings if necessary. Let us do whatever it takes because ultimately it will make our jobs more enjoyable and fulfilling. From cooking, home tendering, childcare, attending to our husbands needs, excelling in our career etc. All these and many more are available if we embrace the web for information. We can have access to international and local speakers, internal blogs; newsletters, workshops, training, and videos of all sorts that can help us achieve more and fulfill our purpose. I don’t only use the web; I engage others by sensitizing them on what they can achieve with the web. When I give assignments to members of staff or children, they know that I expect them to source information from the web. I don’t require only local knowledge; I want to compete with international higher standards too. One of the best ways of educating others is to include them in what you do. We have a habit of implementing projects alone. However, it doesn’t need to be that way. It can be enlightening for my colleagues when they see me create time out of my very busy schedule to interact with our website and that of others. Best of all, it helps improve the site too! Interacting with the web has helped me to become more competitive, increase sales and develop new markets, reduce costs and become more efficient, use technology more effectively and to respond more quickly to innovations in my work sector. There are also several business tools I make use of via the web. These include; benchmarking, forecasting, financial planning, strategic planning, performance monitoring. With the use of the web, I have been able to improve myself, my influence, my skills, my business, my weaknesses, my strength, my organisation; name it. I remember that a class teacher, I always won the most innovative teacher in my school yearly. This was so because I always accessed the web. I source for the children's craft, literacy and numeracy worksheets, bible stories, pictures for classroom decoration and lots more from the web. Myself and my organisation have gained alot of publicity because of our on-line presence. i get invites to speak at conference, participate in local and national seminars etc. if not for the web, I'm not sure we will be so visible. Embrace the web and be a better you.

Dear Fumilor,

Wow!!! I agree with you on the benefits of engaging on the web. There are a lot of things one can achieve and especially women. I am happy because we both are Nigerians but we got to meet here. Thanks to the web. Am glad to connect with you. And am looking forward to meeting you in person. Big hugs sister.

Dear Funmilori,

It's great to hear how your use of the web hasn't only widened your own perspective but also helped you to enhance your work and personal life - and that you have shared your enthusiasm with friends and colleagues. Your mobile library project is a great project - as a child living in a remote village in England I remember the excitement I felt each time the van pulled into the village - more books to read! It would be wonderful if there could be mobile internet vans to bring the web to remote villages and help educate people as to the possibilities this technology contains - maybe one day…

Best wishes,

Fiona

Hello Fiona, Its really a pleasure reading from you. My dream to build the largest library in Africa through the mobile system is becoming a reality though still growing. I also dream of carrying the web through our mobile internet vans to remote locations. Information is power and it liberates. I know my dream will come true; SOON!!!

Thank you Funmilori
