my journey so far

From a young age I have been fascinated with food and I was so sure that I was going to be a chef.If someone was to tell me that I was going to be where I am fifteen years ago I would have cried myself to sleep. In my class I was always ready to try new recipes . My family was supportive they would always buy ingredients which I needed to try something new. I had no doubt that my career will be in food industry. Tertiary level I still persuaded my passion of food, little did I know what was awaiting in the field of work.
I saw my passion draining slowly as a stood in a classroom teaching students Home Economics, it was a joy being in a classroom but also a draining exercise having to follow a prescribed syllabus. I grew very tired and I started looking for something that will allow me to express my self-better. That is when I got a job with the social and community department. 2008 that is the year I realized that what I thought was a passion for me was a stepping-stone for me to greater heights. I was introduced to a world I never knew existed. A world of absolute poverty, growing up in a town I never knew what other people in rural areas go through. I tasted a life , where my presence meant a change of live, right there I realized that improving the well being of individuals was WHO I AM .My presence to many meant hope, a second chance to change their lives for the better. This was a job to many but to me it felt like a calling. I served the community I was working with for 4 years faithfully. Nevertheless, I felt that my influence circle was very limited; I wanted a bigger platform where I can be more influential even to policies and programmes at a country level.
I then moved to NGO, which focuses on issues of gender-based violence. Being new to NGO world, I found myself surfing internet most of my time looking for tools, which could help me do my job better. That's when I came across ‘WORLD PULSE’. That is where I found out about the VOF. Which presented to me, an opportunity to learn how to use my voice to create the almost perfect world.
With a background of not so good English language, I know I don’t stand a chance to have my stories published but VOF promises better things than the normal journalism world. VOF promised to take me through all that I need to know in citizen journalism and I believe this will help me to achieve my goal of being an influential woman.TO EXPRESS MYSELF FULLY WITHOUT FEAR
