My Elevator Pitch

GetRude
Posted March 26, 2016 from Zimbabwe

My name is GetRude, i am a sole parent. I have created a platform for single mums like myself, across socio-economic differences, to support each other morally on facebook. I want to expand this network to include mentorship in entrepreneurship and self sustenance skills, to create a better life for Single mothers in Zimbabwe and their children. This is motivated by the high poverty levels among single parent families in my country.

Hello Getrude,

I'd like to commend you on your bravery, motivation, and independence of being a single mother and putting yourself out there. There will definitely be struggles during parenthood, especially for single parents such as yourself. But as you begin connecting with other single mothers and are all able to stand as one, you will create an amazing support network. There is strength in numbers.

You are truly and inspiration to females all over the world. I look forward to hearing more about your work!

All the best,

Helen Ng

Hi there thank you very much for the encouragement. I have been told being single is not a disability- yet many people choose to turn a blind eye to these very matters.

Thank you for the support and i hope i can make a lasting impression.

Dear Getrude,

I am deeply moved by your initiative because single parent(or single mom) families' only issue is not limited to poverty and economic instability but spills to child care issues with no one to look aftter the child while mom/single parent is out on work or out of city on duty. It is one of the most unique and difficult situations of steering a family with very little or no support.

I too am a single parent and the last 11 years have been most difficult and emotionally draining. Luckily my parents and siblings offered me support and encouragement and I found some respite in that. I pray you never give up on this initiative and you go really long way in this.

With loads of love,

Woow Getrude, You are doing an amazing job with single mums. I know their struggles are unique but once they are empowered and are together then the sky is the limit for them. Good work my sister.

Dear Getrude,

Great pitch! I commend your work in this area that is sometimes overlooked or taken for granted. Single mums certainly need a strong support group where they can access the knowledge and empowerment to better sustain themselves and their child(ren). Keep up the great work you are doing in your community.

Best wishes,

GetRude

Urmila, Glad to connect with you. I have hd to deal with a situation where my mother was never too happy with my status as a single parent and my brother and his family, who have been supportive are not in the country. So there are the little every day challenges- like who can baby sit when i have to travel for work and so on that i struggle with. I have often out myself in the shoes of the women who turn to prostitution and wonder- how do they do it? Agreed its been an emotionally frustrating and draining 2 years and 5 months for me. I have however decided to share the little i have learnt- help give other support and learn from other women who have come thus far- like yourself! 11 years is no joke and i appalud you for taking the journey.

Thank you for the kind words

All the best- GetRude

Hi GertRude,

Your vision is powerful! In my country, we like to say, 'It is only the wearer of the shoe who knows where it pinches'. Who better to take up and drive the issues of single Mums than one who has experienced what it is and been through it. I applaud your efforts and what you have begun to do to that end. As you lift other Mums and give them courage to stand for their children, they in turn will raise their children to be strong and make a difference in society. May Gods grace abound over you and may you get all the support that you need to fulfill your vision.

Blessings,

Terry
