Girls Eductaion =Women Empowerment

My perspective of women empowerment
Women empowerment is a soul search journey which results in the woman’s ability to know who she is and make bold decisions about every aspect of her life-spiritual, political, educational, professional, socio-cultural, financial, health etc

Empowering women involves conscious or unconscious efforts by the woman or and with the woman to equip her with information, knowledge, skills and to give her the platform to discover herself- her dreams, fears, strengths, weaknesses and potential.
Facets of women’s empowerment.
I believe in a holistic approach to women’s empowerment which should be targeted at the woman’s total development. Women need to be therefore empowered spiritually, emotionally, politically, economically, professionally and socio-culturally.

Who is responsible for women’s empowerment?
Everyone-The woman, her nation, her generation. Yes, you and me too.
Empowerment always begins with one self. Even where there are systems, people, policies etc to empower the woman, she must first of all resolve to be empowered by being proactive in gaining knowledge through reading wide, acquiring skills through volunteerism, and grabbing opportunities to be part of the today’s answers to local and global challenges
Importance of women empowerment.
When we empower women we are able to reduce poverty, promote democratic governance at all levels, and promote health, environment and sustainable development and above all achieve Millennium Development Goal 3.

My experience as a facilitator
I had the opportunity to volunteer as a facilitator for a community radio project on young people’s rights. I met many faces-young and old. Male and female. All of a rural community. My job was to help educate them about their rights and responsibilities, development issues including the Millennium Development Goals.
These young women were then to confidently and bolding speak out about issues that affect them in their communities and be part of the solutions and answers to emerging challenges in their community.
Today when I hear these young woman and men speak confidently and intelligently on radio about their rights and responsibilities and most importantly about pertinent issues that affect them in their small community and suggesting innovative answers and solutions to curb these problems I can confidently say that together we travelled on the empowerment journey as they have learnt to:

  • Have confidence in themselves

  • speak for themselves and for others in their community
-Resolve to go to school and break the poverty circle
-To be peer educators ,mentors and ambassadors for empowerment.
    Difficulties
The woman empowerment voyage has never been smooth and may never be. Some of the challenges have been:
    -Cultural barrier-Language, clothes, food, education
-Communication: how to make them understand the concept of empowerment.
    -Geographical location of audience
In conclusion, no nation can attain optimum development in every sector empowering women.
An empowered woman is capable of doing infinite possibilities most of the time blowing million minds including her own. This is one of the million reason why I resolve to be empowered and to empower young women everyday in my own unique way where ever find myself.
