A woman's work is never done

Posted July 23, 2017 from Zimbabwe

It is very sad to witness women and children mostly girls do the bulk of the work where I live but they do not get paid or appreciated. I sense or rather feel that those around them just do not see what these women and children do as work but part of the receivers being entitled to it Since in the absence of girls the boy children fill these roles

Till the land care for the fields farm harvest Fetching firewood fetching water cook for allthe family Ensure there is food for the family They look after the chickens goats cattle This surprises me because these women and children do not earn wages outside the home to support these families In homes where there are goats cattle chickens you often here the man say in these are his he is head of the household??

Women especiallyin laws perpetuate these practices I mean the mother in laws and sister in laws even if they do not live with the familiesHow does one start to educate these women who happily suppress and frustrate women and children ???

Hi there. I agree that it's an education thing. It can start with you, or it can spread to your community and then beyond. But if you feel strongly, as you do, then it always starts with you. What can you do now to make a difference? You can align with people who feel the same as you. It will make you feel more confident and sane:-) Is there a community group or FB group that you can follow? Are there dreams that you have to create more awareness around this? If so, the world needs your voice, message and service. We women can do this!
