Gaining traction
No doubt, at this point, we all know that rape and sexual violence is not just a societal challenge but a global one.
One of the upsides of the covid19 lockdown is that it has exposed the many loud and silent abuses that have been happening in our societies and gone unnoticed.
That the current statistics and rate of rape is alarming to many people all over the world, indicates the fact that now is the time for collective action to finally bring it to a standstill.
We hosted a petition calling for policy review and action towards stiff penalties for rapists and support for rape victims a little over 2 months ago, and today, we are pleased to say our petition is gaining traction, and we are close to not only reaching our milestone but exceeding it.
We are aiming for 20,000 signatures to enable us to make a compelling case to the United Nations, UN Women and the Global Fund for women, and are now 12,829 signatures strong.
Change is made, not only by talking but by doing; the most significant thing we need to have to bring change is the willingness to create it.
The power of our collective voices cannot be overestimated, but what is even more powerful is our collective action.
Come on Amazons, we can do this; let us not only reach the target but beat it.
