Web 2.O: A Source Of Information

Many people say that living is remote is hectic especially when it comes to access to information since poor infrastructure like roads, internet connectivity are some of the challenges facing people living in remote areas. As for me would differ with the statement because since the introduction of web 2.O come into existence and social platforms like Facebook, twitter were introduced has enable many people to have access to information and discuss issues that affects them. Like me for example am a big fun of social media like Facebook and twitter not just because of the social bit of it but also as a tool to access to information to my network who are my friend, again also by joining groups that interests me or which my friends, family and even community members form are in so as to discuss matters affecting us as a community in general. The ripple effects is amazing because once am a member, I add those members that belong to the group and are in network we are free to discuss, joke and even use our mother tongue when discussing.

With all this amazing tools into existence like blogs, Facebook, You Tube, LinkedIn and even Google issues that affected women like gender equality and inequality, rape, girl child education among others have reduced compared to when WEB 2.O wasn't into existence. This because many women who have the same interests and vision have joined hands together either to use this tools as a way to pass information, forming causes with multiple women from different countries through networking in the same social media platforms. By using WEB 2.O all networks have been formed, passing of information to a large mass of people around the globe, great causes have been created and implemented and a good example is Catapult, more organization supporting women activities have been identified and approached, and even celebrities like Beyonce (Humanitarian Ambassador) have come out and used their pages to either support a cause by being ambassadors thus reaching out to many people with information and joining the cause. Famous women also like Banda- President of Malawi have also been known through WEB 2.0 tools especially the You Tube

With all this in mind and coming from a remote rural area, have been able to create a long lasting relationship with other young women whom we share the same vision just by reading their profile and adding them in my social network especially Twitter, exchange ideas, receive and pass information to other young people within my community and lastly join causes that affects people around my community. I remember vividly sharing a video of the late Wangari Maathai(Former Nobel Price Winner) and other great women on You Tube during last year International Women Day which theme was “Connecting girls, Inspiring the futures” to a nearby school to mark the celebration and the girls learnt a lot. I was not only empowered but even them. Blogs especially Forbes Women and Guardian have enable me know some of the activities of women and also learn from other great women
