Amazing Journey to Online Community

I,accidently know World pulse and I become like it. One day I had read a book talk about International Association of Women in Radio and Television(IAWRT) and I had logged to it’s website then I saw the link to Voice of our Future, it about online program on journalism. It really magnetize me so much, I have found many fascinating articles written by many different women around the world, then I also have seen several women from Cambodia are the members of world pulse. It’s really surprise me it is what I have ever seen before, it seemed like I found the world that I dream for so long and now I found it. At that exiting day, I had read the journals written by Sarvina. She is the one who was selected among 30 correspondents to have a speaking tour to US. The most inspire me, she is Cambodian like me, I really proud to see young Cambodian girl got a great success , she is intelligent and hard working. In her comment, Sarvina also encourage me to apply for Voice of our future. I feel really encourage, I got more energy to move forward. I want to write something that benefits the poor. I feel upset, and disappointed with unfair in the society. I feel anxious to see repeated trouble thing happen again and again, people seem accept and tolerate the wrong doing. I am sure I can not do everything, but I want to be part of solution, I want to save this world. Personally, E- learning is what I am looking for. I am usually feel not satisfied with myself, seem I go back ward in self improvement, like I am in the plateau situation, I feel not grow more since I have got two sons. The chance to peruse learning abroad was deleted from my master plan. E-learning give me the opportunity to improve myself which it dose not require me to go far from my family. The program of VOF is really the precious opportunity to sharp my skill in journalism which I almost drop it. People said women journalist can do only she is alone when she got married and have children she automatic drop it. Because this job need high commitment, we need to be smart, hard working and intelligent enough to capture the situation, otherwise you could not produce a good stories. With this program, I could improve my skill to be more competent , especially good analytical skill, writing skill , I want to write insight and meaningful about women and children in Cambodia. Voice of our Future will change my personality which I usually not confident, confuse and frustrate. This feeling happen repeatedly and hound me all the time. I want to change this thinking. I want to be strong and brave. I want to be look confident and competent. I want to be effective speaker and writer. I want to be a voice of my society.

Talking in confident is what I need to build. I am not really sure what I have talking to especially to person who superior than me like my supervisor , my director I am not confident to talk to them, I need to be careful, because they are sensitive. I always care with people feeling. But I become stress when I could said what I have thought. I want to be brave person and dare to say what I think. i have a problem to demonstrate the ideas.

Hello Hin Kunthea, I enjoyed reading your story. I also feel that I found World Pulse ‘accidentally’ and now it is home. I think we all feel at times frustrated with ourselves that we are not doing or learning enough. I think that is a good thing in a way, it is motivation. We will never be satisfied and will keep pushing forward, as you are, to help change the world in our own way. Your perspective as a mother gives you a passion for the issues of women, children and mothers. This will fuel your writing voice. I look forward to your next assignments, keep writing!

At some point in my life, I have experienced that same feeling that some other persons were more competent than I was. In the past, have also experienced so much timidity. I once asked a friend whom I saw as a very confident person about what makes her tick; would you believe that she said even in the face of her seeming boldness, she still experienced fear. I also once read a book about overcoming shyness. In that book, I discovered that everyone you see out there who appear bold, have their fears too. All they do is train themselves to suppress and or overcome FEAR! It takes practice Kunthea. No one is actually better than you are. Take charge! More often than not, it is the fear of rejection that silences people. Knowing this has been quite empowering for me, as I always tell myself " the person I want to speak to has his/her fears too". Now when I tell people that I am a shy person, they don't believe me. World Pulse is a right place dear. The more open you are to listening, learning and sharing, the more empowered you will become. I like your story, it is real,it is from the depths of your person. Speaking for your self is a sure way of learning to speak for others. You are on course.

Warmly,

You have encourage me,. Fear is really challenging for me. I lost control when I fear, my thinking is empty... nothing in my brain. Now I learn to know it.I can negotiate with it, I learn to overcome it. fear is only thing that I excepted it. if I reject it , I could control it.

Dearie, the first step to overcoming a problem or challenge is by identifying it. Second step is making up one's mind to deal with it. You have taken the first and second steps. A standing ovation and a round of applause to you! You must begin to live with the consciousness that those you are afraid of have their fears too. Make up your mind not to be ruled by the fear of those who have fear too. Nobody is better than you Kunthea, irrespective of what anyone thinks about you. You are the best of you and there is no other you out there. Step out with your head high up, you must stand up for yourself and all those who are looking up to you. I am looking up to you and look forward to hearing your success stories.

Lots of Hugs!

Would you believe that it completely skipped my mind? It was a very demanding day for me. I was on my feet for most part of the day attending to some pending and rather urgent matters. I am glad you are doing great. I'll be healthy and also take care of myself as you advised. I have been hearing about the floods in Cambodia, I pray the rains go away pretty soon. Take care my sister and friend.

Warmly,

Olanike
