WorldPulse Workshop at WSIS+10 High Level Event: The Power of Digital Media-Bringing Women a Global Voice

It gives me great pleasure to share with the World Pulse community about the World Pulse workshop at WSIS +10 High Level Event in Geneva, Switzerland on June 9th 2014 at 9:00am. During this workshop, I will be presenting the results of World Pulse's global campaign Women Weave the Web. The aim of this campaign is to crowd source solutions, models, and best practices on digital inclusion and empowerment directly from grassroots women leaders from across the developing world.

Our session will present a preliminary analysis of the hundreds of testimonies we have received from World Pulse sisters from across the globe during the Digital Access Phase. We will share recommendations on how key stakeholders should focus their efforts to support women’s full engagement in the information society. Additionally, our diverse group of speakers will share the solutions they are developing locally to promote digital inclusion.

The session will generate a discussion and reflection with key ICT actors such as technology companies, international organizations, and governments on how grassroots women leaders’ recommendations can be made actionable within the Internet Governance framework.

The panelists include Ms. Jensine Larsen-World Pulse CEO, Ms. Lakshmi Puri-Assistant Secretary General UN and Deputy Director of UN Women, Mr. Stuart Hamilton, Director - Policy and Advocacy, IFLA and Ms. Leana Mazlina-Digital Actions Campaign Manager, World Pulse. The workshop will also feature stories from community members Ms. Olutosin Oladosu – Adebowale, Ms. Beatrice Achieng Nas and myself (Iffat Gill).We will be sharing testimonies from Pakistan, Uganda and Nigeria.

The World Summit of the Information Society (WSIS) is a two phase UN Conference that defined the issues, policies and frameworks to tackle the Information and Communication technologies to foster development. One of its chief aims was to bridge the so-called global digital divide separating rich countries from poor countries by spreading access to the Internet in the developing world.
