My expirience in writing the feature article

Congratulations to all of you who where able to submit your module 4 assignments. I have read some and they are so informative.
To me this was the hardest assignment done much as I had planned for it quite thoroughly (by the time we were doing the OpED I had decided on what to write as my feature article). My problem was with getting information from some sections of the institutions.

I was not able to access information from the National Referral hospital because of Bureaucracy. I had cleared with the head of fistula programme who referred my to another surgeon. When I contacted the surgeon she told me to go on this particular day. When I met her on this day, yes I could see she was very busy but I was referred to the nurse who was specifically trained in fistula management. This lady out rightly refused to give me information saying the previous week she had given detailed information to a journalist, so she was tired of giving the same information to another 'journalist'. I was disappointed. I did not give up, I made another attempt to see the head of section (a lady). This one also told me to go back and get a written permission from the head since they have express instruction not to provide information to anyone. (however, I was became suspicious that they were insinuating that I should tip /bribe them to get facts) I was dissappointed that I could not get information from Mulago Hospital and yet people out their need to know about fistula.

I am happy I was able to use the information I had gathered to complete the article.

I have already started contacting the national newspaper editors for a possibility of publishing my feature article. I hope Im successful in getting the article published in the local paper. Will keep you posted.
