Ezoova Women with Disabilities Savings Group

Ezoova Women with Disabilities in Arua district in Uganda recently were one of the beneficiaries of a grant from Criterion Institute. A seed sum of 500,000= (UGX) was given to boost their economic empowerment savings group. This group was born upon realization by the women of their suffering from GBV ; a situation which is exuberated by disability they suffer . This situation increased their vulnerability to abuse/GBV. Through our efforts (AWOR) in resource mobilization, we believe we can make a contribution to improve on disadvantaged women's lives. The vision of Ezoova Women with Disabilities Savings Group is for every member to become financially independent and challenge the status quo since their communities believe that persons with disability will always depend on others. We are already glad to see that these women's lives positively turning around. It is planned that the women group will grow their investment capital for 12 months then another group will benefit.

It is surprising but true that among the group members were once street beggers whose lives have since been transformed. Another member has boosted her income by starting a small business of selling roasted groundnuts to people in her work place. That's how powerful seed capital can be for a woman.

It is my hope that we can support more groups of women who have suffered GBV to become economically empowered through boosting their savings groups investment capital. If you want to contribute to boost  women's group feel free to send me an email.
