Trade by barter

On the 10th of February 2013, I entered into an office for a job interview. I was asked different questions regarding the job recruitment. After the interview, I was told to come back in 1week.
When I reached the office the next week, I saw a man who identified himself as the manager of the company. He just brought out my file, read through it and told me that he was very impressed with my performance. I was glad and thanked him but just when I was about leaving the office, the man looked at me and said "I like you and I want to have sex with you". he went further to tell me that this is the only criteria for me to get the job. He said he doesn't care how well I have performed in the test and interviews. All i needed was to sleep with him and get my job. I was so furious. Immediately, I asserted myself and told the man that I was not going to do such. I was so firm with my words and that made him angry. He said I was being so stubborn and walked me out of his office.
I felt so sad because I had high hopes of getting that job. I had performed excellently and the people who interviewed me acknowledged that. Why would this man just come out of nowhere and tel me that I could not get the job.
I took up the issue, went to a lawyer who is a close friend and filed a case against the man. Afterwards, I demanded to see the director of the company who after so many weeks, i eventually saw, and told him my story. I told him the steps I have taken cos i was determined to make this man pay for what he did and i registered my displeasure over the situation because only God knows how many women and young girls must have lost their jobs or denied the jobs simply because they refused. Or even the ones who will go ahead to sleep with the man just to get the job position.
The director of the company begged me not to take the case to court as this would tarnish the image of his company. He immediately sent for the man, scolded him, and eventually sacked him.
After much plea, I took the case out of court and I was so happy that I have used this man as a scape goat for other men in the company to learn from.
I want women to know that its called gender violence and should be fought against. Is it a crime to be a woman? Why are men not being subjected to such degrading actions? We must know that we have the rights to speak up> We are equal beings. No one is superior. Why should a woman be made to droop out of school and go for street trading while the boys enjoy all the privileges of becoming graduates? Enough is enough!!!
