‘A girl should know her place’ - how many times have women and girls heard that?

On Day of the Girl - October 11 - we want girls around the world to know that their place is anywhere they want!

Will you take part in #TheGirlEffect on your social channels? We’d be so grateful for your support.

The ask is simple and powerful: Share what society/family/bosses told you that you were SUPPOSED to do. And then share what you CHOSE to do instead. Tag one friend who inspires you to share their SUPPOSED TO / CHOSE TO story too. Why just one? Because when one girl finds her power to make different choices that change her life, it inspires others to do so too. It creates a ripple effect. That’s #TheGirlEffect

Girl Effect uses the power of media to unlock the power of girls. From chatbots to chatshows and TV dramas to tech, Girl Effect is creating content that helps girls make positive choices and changes in their life.

And it’s working. Girl Effect’s reach is over 20 million across Africa and Asia. In India and South Africa, girls have sent almost 1.2 million messages on Girl Effect’s chatbots asking questions about sex and relationships. Readers of their magazine in Malawi are 32% more likely to have had the first dose of the HPV vaccine than non-readers.

With so much negativity in the media, I hope we can create a positive moment for girls. Your voice will add so much. I hope you’ll consider joining #TheGirlEffect from Thursday October 8 - Sunday October 11. Here is an easy guide of how to take part.

With gratitude
