My Journey

My name is Jacqueline and I am from Australia. I am involved in various community initiatives within my city with newly arrived migrants and refugees to Australia. One challenge I face is in the work I am involved in is the xenophobic ideas that are gaining momentum in my country and this is creating division and access to the new migrants. Mothers in refugee families are often forgotten in their mentorship and guidance when settling into their new communities. They often rely on their children to get by day to day living in Australia. There are teaching English initiatives, however social connection and empowerment is often not evident in communities. I believe digital platforms can be a wonderful tool to engage refugee women to Australia. It can provide platform to connect with people in their local community and Australia wide to discuss and share their encounters and create support systems for one another. I am currently attending professional workshops, seminars and networking opportunities to explore the issues migrants face when being settled in Australia and how to welcome them better. I have not encountered digital platforms to find solutions to this group, however the global direction to data and digital literacy will pave the direction for the betterment of addressing social issues. I am developing the theoretical education and gaining real life practice, however my digital knowledge is limited and I look forward to creating change for the social good.
