I AM NORTH

North!
This is just a little eye opener on the northern part of Nigeria

I'm Igbo by tribe from the Eastern part of Nigeria, but I was born and and brought up in the North. I know their way of life, their food, their trade. The North is a peaceful and beautiful place. It's inhabitants are welcoming and accommodating. They're epitomes of love and care.

As a girl child in the North, you're expected to grow and be married off before the age of 20. Only few go to school and even if they do, they drop out of school when it's time to get married. Some hawk on the streets, if you're lucky, you learn a trade.

But I can testify to the progress of the North. The North is evolving! Even though the progress is slow and stagnant in some places, there are changes!

We will not give up on the North!

Hi Jayne, I'm so glad to see that you are hopeful for the future of the region you grew up in, despite what sounds like some difficult circumstances for girls and women. What do you think is helping progress take root? Surely, you yourself are an example of what is working to help create momentum and change. Thank you for sharing with us and please keep speaking out!

Hello, Jayne,

I love that you are a woman full of hope who is grateful for progress even when it’s slow. The smiles on the photos show how determined your tribe on not giving up despite challenges you face.

Keep it up. Praying for great things to come to you and the Igbo tribe of the North!
