Kamala Harris takes the oath of office, sworn in as Vice-President of the United States (Global News)....https://youtu.be/3uieu7whRE4
Four years after becoming the second Black American senator and first South Asian-American senator in history,
Kamala Harris was sworn in as the 49th Vice-President of the United States on Wednesday at Capitol Hill,
breaking another glass ceiling in America.
Harris is the first Black-American, South Asian-American, and female vice-president in U.S. history.
She was announced as Biden’s running mate in August 2020. She also served as attorney general of California prior to serving in the Senate.
Kamala Harris served as a member of the Democratic Party, as a United States senator from California from 2017 to 2021.
Black-American or African-American? South Asian-American or Indian-American?
All minorities have their reasons for picking the subdivision identity. We claim the names, and we are labelled as well by folks that know and by folks that have no clue.
Black-Americans are born in the USA from many Black origins that we know about, like the Caribbean, just to name one.
Most of us cannot claim Africa, nor does Africa claim us. African-Americans are searching and sometimes finding their roots. Some claim Africa no matter what.
South Asian-American covers so many countries of the Asian continent. Indian-American is from India but mistaken for Native American, also called Indians.
One day we will all be Americans. What a concept! Someday another young lady will be sworn in that will be multicultural, and she will be just AMERICAN.
We are not there yet. But we shall overcome someday!
Kamala Harris was sworn in by the first Latina Supreme Court Justice Sonia Maria Sotomayor.
Why not Latin-American? No one says that anymore. It's just passe'.
(The irony is they don't call Biden the Irish-American president. They called Obama, the African-American president. The didn't call George Bush the English/German- American president.)
