America's history & habits of ethnic labels are now hilarious! Thanks Ancestry.com!

My Ancestry.com ethnicity breakdown (1/1)

Above I have posted my ethnicity breakdown according to Ancestry.com and my DNA. My point in doing this post is to bring attention to the inadequacy of the labels created by racism in America to identify Americans. Please read further.

I mentioned in the recent past that our Vice President Kamala Harris has all kinds of ethnic subdivision labels. The first woman, Black American or African American, and Asian American or Indian American Vice President. The media does this to create a picture and identity, but it truly creates, confirms and continues the system of racism. President Biden, is always the 46th American president. Not the Irish-American president. Former President Obama was the 45th and first African American president. Former President George W. Bush was always referred to as the 44th American president. Not the German/English-American president.

So if you have lineage and genetics outside of European, you will be automatically subdivided and labeled specifically. Just to make things so called "clear" to the public for identity sake. Very seldom, unless it's a historical report will Irish, French, German, Italian, Spanish (from Spain) or other European origins be used as a hyphenated  identity with American. It's usually just American.

Just for giggles, I submitted my DNA to Ancestry.com to breakdown my genetic ethnic lineage. With all the subdivision labels that we have, mine surely presents further complications. The more concise Ancestry has become by using DNA the more identities get added to the list. It has been fun because over the past 6 years, they have created more DNA markers. Does this information make identity more clarified or more confusing?  I personally had a chuckle.

According to the list by Ancestry.com I am African/European/Caribbean-American. That's a mouthful!

So...grab a cup of coffee, and if you have nothing else to do, I'm inviting you to take a look at the list above and to have a giggle on me. Enjoy!

All of the percentages add up to 100% JoMarie. And I'm 100% American. (how dare I say that!)

Hugs...Y'all

Hi JoMarie,

How are you doing? You make a very excellent point, that continuing to pigeon-hole people just creates a greater chasm. It's so true. I've always loved the "melting pot" that America is. Hopefully as time goes on, sooner rather than later, that diversity will be celebrated more and more.

Wow! How cool is that:-) Love it! My dad did quite a thorough report before on Ancestry.com but I don't recall the results. Now I'm going to have to go back and look. He was 100% Norwegian, but what does that even mean, when you think about it? I'm sure his Norwegian ancestors probably came from somewhere before Norway, or quite possibly.

Yes, you are, dear!

Hope you're well, and that you have a great, rest of your week!

Hi Jill,
I'm doing fine. Especially since we had a peaceful transition of power. I love the way you word this, "continuing to pigeon-hole people just creates a greater chasm".
That's an awesome statement and speaks volumes! Thanks for visiting!

Ha ha hello American! (or should I say 'hello America'?)
Meeting the different diversities within you, representing what it is to be called American, makes me think, "America, Embrace yourself, and you will enjoy all your beauty and its wealth!"

Wow, 'African/European/Caribbean-American' this is superfluous. It's exciting meeting the 100% JoMarie. Hugs.

Absolutely! And you rock Joshua!

Hello, JoMarie,

You literally have the world inside of you!haha. I was somehow rooting to see a Filipino ancestry somewhere in your DNA.haha. Wow, you are the world, you are the children, you are the one who makes a brighter day, so let's start giving. If you think it's a song lyrics, it is. That is the music that comes to mind when I saw the breakdown of your ancestry. No wonder you rock! You surely belong to World Pulse. You yourself are global.

Hey Karen,
I love your analogy, it's so cool and so very true. So since the world is flowing thru my veins and heart beats, I am a literally pulsing the world. LoL! You rock too sister...and keep being a rock for us all. My Filipino ancestry will show up when they create another marker in the DNA panel. Stay tuned. When they post it, we'll celebrate.
