Greetings

Hello to you all. I think this a wonderful forum for us to share our thoughts and stories of a country and people so near and dear to us. Thank you for offering this opportunity.

I lived in China for over a year, teaching English and then working on a documentary photography project on the Moso, an ethnic minority in Yunnan province. When most Westerners think of China they see the rapidly growing metropolises of Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong. Yet, about 50% of the population, more than 650 million people, are farmers and 150 million live below international poverty lines.

Danny Gawlowski and I spent a few months living in the village of Walabi, a mountain village in Yunnan where the residents remind us how so many people labor; with animal, muscle and sheer will.
