lets make a change
Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for today. "Support a Child make a Difference ,empower Community"

Mwakirunge community is one of the vulnerable communities in Mombasa coastal region. That is where we have garbage dumping site that serves Mombasa County. The dumpsite threats to human and environment knows no boundary as the about 2,000 tons of garbage continue to pile daily with those exposed to it also continue to suffer from lack of other social amenities. Majority use flying toilets to relieve themselves when nature calls, houses made of paper bags, boxes etc. Again, we the advent of COVID 19, the ward lacks clean refresh water to keep the disease at bay as the residents’ appeal is to drill water boreholes, housing and recycling machine for the plastic and scrape materials from garbage collection. A scavenger at the dumpsite who gets his living by collecting plastic bottles want the Governor to carry out massive spraying of the area saying many families depending on it risk contracting known or unknown diseases. The dumpsite is home to an assortment of solid waste ranging from medical, offices and foodstuffs to industrial waste that can expose those operating there to various health hazards. The community depend on food from the dumping site. Residents of Mwakirunge Ward have been up in support of arms in the County government, sponsors and stake holders for their cries over the dumpsite’s open burning of solid waste which results into harmful toxins that can cause health complications. They are living on borrowed time with daily toxic doses. There are concerns such as household registration, illegal constructions, education, demolitions, city management, housing and traffic has left many a people disillusioned by authorities. The public should be encouraged to express their demands through the network platform for enriching information resources. Moreover, the response mechanism should be established for the public opinions derived from Text Mining, to improve public satisfaction. Read less...

Hello sister Judith and welcome to World Pulse! Many thanks for sharing the story as well as the visuals. It is indeed sad that people are forced to encounter these living conditions. My heart goes out to the little children and their health. If I may ask, are you involved directly? Or tell us what you are passionate about? My prayer is that the Mwakirunge community will be cared for and empowered. Thank you so, so much for sharing.

Thank you my sister for your warm welcome and responding to my post. Since I was 6years I had a passion of helping the needy in the community, the orphans, the poor and old aged. I always say it was a calling, I remember at some point I used to carry the children that were not able to have meals home, till my mum would complain and say, "we cannot help everyone "that why when I finished my olevel. I did a course in community development and social work, counseling and sociology .I have worked with community at large, organizations and different institutions to support the vulnerable children and empower youth and women.
Mwakirunge case has been in my mind for years giving me sleepless nights, that why I opened a community based organization to try and give them support.
This is a dumping site that if you step your foot in you will brake down and cry because of there way of leaving. They feed from left overs that are dumped in the gabbage, collect scrape eg plastic which they sell to the companies for recycling, most of the children don't go to school especially after covid19 panemic, early pregnancies to girl child,no sanitary towels, the list is endless my dear its so hurting more so when I look at the kids..

Greetings Judith, thank you for sharing your story and it is a very important one.
Clean sanitation is vital to a health life no matter where one resides on earth. The leaders of many African countries need to change and sanitation laws implemented and much more in many areas pertaining to basic human health rights. Our women and children are most affected and we must advocate on their behalf. Thank you for your service and we know change will not come unless we struggle to press on and fight for it.
Hopefully your organization can join partnership(s)with like-minded orgs and associations to strengthen what you have started.
My best to you and your efforts,
Mama Queen

Thank you so much for responding to my post, for sure all we want is patnership ,sponsors, donors and financial support. This will help us work building a childrens home for the kids and aresource center for the youth and women to explore there talents, they can do very lovely art eg ,bead work, tailoring ,we have the youths who know how to draw,i mean they are very talented.
to the children we can support them in education,by taking them back to school.
men asked for a risycling machine for them to earn a good leaving.
we were also planing to give them good housing for the once living in the paper and boxes made houses.
We are ready for anyone from here to share ideas too because on my end working as a team is key.

Dear Judith,
A big welcome to World Pulse. Reporting on this community of people gives a stark reminder of what is in front of us all globally, needing urgently to be changed. What courageous and heart filled work is being done by all of you who are part of your organization. We need to find ways to hold governments responsible globally, as the global economy is so outrageously unbalanced. Your voice is so welcome here.

Hello Judith, its so sad to see the level of poverty. People struggling to make a living from cabbage. We need to advocate for more sanitation policies in most of our African countries and good implementation strategies.
It breaks my heart to imagine that women and children are the mist affected.
Thanks sister for the good Job you are already doing. Keep it up.
Sending hugs and love
