SHIMO LA TEWA WOMEN PRISON

We had an opportunity to visit women and their children at  shimo la tewa maximum prison. The prison situated at shanzu along malindi road  in Mombasa county Kenya. It is the second largest prison in Kenya and Helping Hands organization has been in a mission to empower women and youth in the community. Since the outbreak of covid19 pandemic, the prisoners have not been able to be visited by guests, friends and relatives and these has affected emotionally and deserted. Until our visit, Majority broke in tears as an indication that they had undergone mental torture. lets all remember our sisters and there children in prison. This are very strong women with leadership values ,good morals, talented as much as they are unable to live a normal life.

They all need to be loved and cared for to avoid cases of suicide, frustrations and hanger. We have old aged women and youths who need counseling ,basic items for there daily needs, more so their children, the infant who have no idea of the situation ,support them in anyway. walk in prison and you will brake down in tears, they feel isolated and forgotten, unwanted and dirty,

As helping hands organization we have decided to come with a program of its own that will support the women and children in the prison. We can not walk on this journey alone, any interested party can join us, together we can work as a team.

Therefore, helping hands organization takes this opportunity to sensitize the public at large that we need to remember the vulnerable community more so prisoners, street children and orphanages. In addition to this, these part of the society are in need of items such as pampers, noodles, sanitary towels, panties, bra's, tissue papers, Weetabix, shoes, sandals, clothes for children and detergents. We therefore appeal to individuals, institutions ( companies) and non governmental organizations to offer their utmost support to the aforementioned vulnerable community.
