My Journey

I was born and raised in Rwanda a bigger part of my life in a family of 10, but Congo and Uganda have hosted me too as a refugee the little part of my life in a family of 5, the trigger insight of my change-making life. It was during this time that I was called "the chief of the camp" at 4 years old.

I used to wake up early in the morning to be sure I make the tour of the whole camp we were living in before my brother and sister come back from school, so that I find what to share with them while sharing what they learned in class during the day. For me I only had to share names and number of pregnant women, those who are ready to deliver and all those who have babies in our camp! it was shocking for me to know that the woman I have been visiting every day when pregnant or the woman who told me she is going to bring a baby, come back home without a baby or even die while delivering a baby! From that time, I have been wondering why it happens and what I can do to stop or reduce it immediately; but remember I was 4! No woman should lose life while giving life!

From my 4 years, I wanted to save lives! My life experience was being a family messenger; delivering the harvest to friends of our family, delivering wedding invitations for my siblings, and any other message that need to be delivered! With my education trajectory, I could not do nursing as I wished, but sciences, and I thought I will become a doctor until the end of my high school when I was awarded for the government scholarship to do Education in my university. I was not good at talking, not good in communication by speaking, but I knew that I could communicate through other mediums. I decided to shift from education to Technology, what was too hard to exchange at that time neither with moral support nor with financial support. I had to walk for 6 hours from home to the college I needed to shift to, things that were strange and no sense to the persons from whom I needed support the most; but finally with my resilience, I got admitted to the College of Technology and have chosen to do Information Technology because I knew Information is power, and I could use the power of information in different ways to save lives.

I am the product of a generation whose focus was not coddling their children, but raising strong, determined young people to overcome obstacles no matter what. After all, we were the generation following the genocide, and we had a nation to re-build. I have seen my friends make poor life choices because their parents don’t know about psychological and practical aspects of raising a child. And it's because of this I am a passionate advocate for parenting issues.

I had a vision, empathy, courage and passion to create a change. With my background in communication and technology, I decided to launch Cosmos Magazine, a print and online periodical that offers interesting maternal and child health information to young women and mothers in Rwanda, collaborating with Health experts, because I am passionate about improving maternal and child health. I have been affected personally by the issues that I address with COSMOS and I thought about all street children, early pregnancies, drug abuse, terrorists, and many more other factors that the society consider as dangerous to it; I recognize their potential by listening to their stories and healing their broken hearts by telling them successful stories.

I have been a family messenger without a purpose, and now I chose to be a “World Messenger”; using ICT to improve maternal and child health!
