Women Human Rights defenders network Uganda [WHRDN-UGANDA] has enhanced on capacity building for female journalists’ women human rights defenders in Uganda with an aim of improving on the reporting of cases of women human rights and fellow journalists.



Madam Kugonza Brenda the executive director women human rights defenders Network Uganda (WHRDN-Uganda) while speaking to female journalists women human rights defenders during a capacity building training held over the weekend at Arch hotel in Kampala, she recommended them to always report cases of women human rights defenders for support, help, proper handling and for the network's intervention as they face a lot of challenges while doing their work of defending women rights in their communities. Kugonza disclosed that some women human rights defenders have not been helped because the network is not aware of what they are facing as they fear to let them know and others women do not know where to report and to run to during the time of troubles, it is the work of female journalists women human rights defenders to help these women human rights defenders and fellow journalists through reporting those cases to the network for quick action and intervention. Amuiko Sarah journalist working with radio Pacis and who was a facilitator advised journalists that before reporting those cases there is a need of getting the facts of the case be sensitive and if it happened during the course of the work as a journalist or women human rights defenders. Rose Kasigwa who represented radio Paidha asked the network to have confidentially for the victims and survivors.



Kwomukama Edwig communication officer WHRDN-Uganda said that though women rights defenders are doing their work but they also need to have self care for the best of their health.



Journalists who preferred anonymous shared the experience and challenges they are facing in line with their work and others related to their gender like threats, undermining them among others.



Leese Josephine working with Heritage FM, Ajok Flavia working with Spice FM, Kugonza Harriet working with new vision Buliisa district among others asked the organization also to look on how to improve on networking and coordination of women human rights defenders in the country.
