The challenges of a mother who abandones her child

Life was not easy for a young girl who was staying with her father in a small town in Wakiso Distric, Uganda. They were earning a living through selling charcoal in the community. This girl was three months pregnant and she did not know the man responsible for the pregnancy. As all young girls can act in the absence of support, she looked around for a man who could be responsible for the pregnancy. Luckily enough this young girl got a man.

However, the man took the girl not knowing that she was pregnant. After discovering that the girl was pregnant he chased her a way from his home. She had no where to go except to go back to her father who was by then married to a young wife. She started mistreating her to the extent that she was forced to leave the home. She started a search for her mother who was already married to another home far a way from Wakiso District.

The situation continued to be hostile for her and her pregnancy until when she was forced to go back and find where to get a shelter. It was not long when she delivered a baby girl. Imagine she was failing to look after her self alone what about the situation when they are now two. The mother and the baby started to live a challenging life until when a baby was 9 months old. She was forced to leave the baby with a friend and go and look for survival. She promised to keep on sending money every month (15,000/=) for the upkeep of the baby where she was left.

In two weeks time the baby started missing the mother and she was affected physically due to lack of what to eat and mother care. That time the friend was not sure of where the mother was. The innocent friend decided to dump the 9 months baby on the road side for a good samaritan to pick her up. The baby was luckily picked by a passenger and up to now no one knows the age of the baby and the tribe/clan where the baby comes from.

The baby is now in school, she has adopted the culture of the new home she is in and the family is happily living with that baby girl. Such cases are happening in Uganda everyday.
