A Song for You, Dear World Pulse Sisters

Dear World Pulse sisters,

I am sharing this song with you, especially to those who are tired of being used by other people or those who are still recovering from abusive relationships.

This song resonates with me so much.

I am not a singer, but I like music, and music makes me sing. This song, It's My Turn, is a classic by Diana Ross. I began to listen to this attentively in 2017. Even when the key is too high for me, I kept singing (or lipsynching?)  this song as I claimed that one day it will be my turn.

My turn to speak up, my turn to own my story, my turn to put my needs first before sacrificing my energy for others, my turn to stop pleasing people, and so on.

The memory is still fresh when I sang this song in karaoke during my father's birthday in November 2017. Little did I know that I will be attracting this declaration in my life. I was so oblivious that exactly thirty days after singing this song, my family and I would be facing a supertyphoon. We survived, and I wrote that incident as my first World Pulse post.

Oh, what a turn of events (pun intended), I signed up as an Encourager, then become a Featured Storyteller. I will be celebrating my two years in World Pulse this month. In these two years, I could really say I had my turn. I won two more Featured Storyteller Awards on World Pulse, then became an Ambassador, then now an Encourager Mentor. Amazing!

I feel so honored for the opportunity to send encouragement to our sisters all over the world. I feel humbled to be working with Mae Ann, another World Pulse Ambassador from the Philippines as we build our World Pulse Philippines Facebook Group. I never thought a time would come that I will be an instrument to mentor, to uplift, to praise, and to encourage women both here and abroad. Now that I have my turn, I resolve to be who I needed to be when I was silenced, excluded, and unheard.

How powerful a song can be to shift a mindset: that we can walk away from abusive relationships; that we can start from number one; that we can reclaim our stories; that we can process our healing: and that we can plan for great future.

Twenty days from now, the year is about to end. A new decade is coming. It's a great time for reflection and even to finish this decade strong.

I offer you this song, dear sisters. To those who feel stuck and lost at the moment, believe that you can have your turn, too. Your future is better than the past because you have the power to make it so. I love you all. Hope you like this song.

Thank you so much, World Pulse, for walking alongside me in my two years' journey with you. You are a blessing from Above.

IT'S MY TURN

I can't cover up my feelings In the name of love

Or play it safe For a while that was easy

And if living for myself Is what I'm guilty of

Go on and sentence me I'll still be free

It's my turn

To see what I can see

I hope you'll understand

This time's just for me

Because it's my turn

With no apologies

I've given up the truth

To those I've tried to please

But now it's my turn

If I don't have all the answers

At least I know I'll take my share of chances

Ain't no use of holding on

When nothing stays the same

So I'll let it rain

'Cause the rain ain't gonna hurt me

And I'll let you go '

Though I know it won't be easy

It's my turn

With no more room for lies

For years I'd seen my life

Through someone else's eyes

And now it's my turn

To try and find my way

And if I should get lost

At least I'll own today

It's my turn

Yes, it's my turn

And there ain't no use in holding on

When nothing stays the same

So I'll let it rain

'Cause the rain ain't gonna hurt me

And I'll let you go

'Though I know it won't be easy

It's my turn

To see what I can see I hope you'll understand

This time's just for me

Because it's my turn

To turn and say good-bye

I sure would like to know

That you're still on my side

Because it's my turn It's my turn

It's my turn

To start from number one

Trying to undo

Some damage that's been done

But now it's my turn

To reach and touch the sky

No one's gonna say

At least I didn't try

It's my turn

Yes, it's my turn

It's my turn

It's my turn

It's my turn
