Not Alone

Somedays are hard. Changing anything brings facets of challenge. She knew this.  Today, she would start with small tasks. Changing her habitual walking route, a new place for coffee and the chance of new faces. Different conversations. She had driven another 1,084 thousand miles, from rain into the sun. Some thought she was a little crazy. She laughed to herself. Maybe they were almost right. But then, what was "crazy"?  It depended on whose shoes you were walking in. Her history of "crazy" was the road of her life. She had done things "they" said couldn't be done. That was crazy..  Laughing quietly to herself she calculated the miles of her current version of madness. Her pandemic journey to break free of old thoughts and defined norms.  She had been "good" for so long now, she had almost forgotten what it was like to be free.  So, she left. Left it. There was no reason to stay anymore. She had done what was expected. Toed the line, obeyed the "rules".  She mused, it has taken about 27, 554 miles in 3 months, alone, to start remembering who she was. To break the fears that "normal" had set around her. She traveled, unstoppable, through protests, hurricanes, dust storms and international borders. Always observing, asking questions and writing.. Tossing words out into the world in small ripples. Pushing through dark spaces to make room for light. Finding light.

And, today, here she was. Sitting in a new place, the sun on her back, drinking coffee and thinking of -"making a change".  Somedays, she doubted herself. Doubted everything. What could she, one woman do? She breathed deeply. Sniffed the aroma of her steaming coffee and through the magic of technolgy reached out across the world. To all those other women, sitting alone and thinking of making a change.

She smiled. She was not alone. They were not alone. They had each other. They could change the world, together.
