Water For People—Malawi



Overall management of Water For People’s water and sanitation development program in Malawi. Established the Malawi Office. Developed 5-year country strategy (2007-2011) and responsible for program work in 2 districts (Chikwawa and Rumphi) as well as an emerging peri-urban initiative in the city of Blantyre. Main responsibilities include the effective capacity building of key governmental and non-governmental partners, the effective implementation of the country strategy, staff management and development, financial and narrative reporting and building relations/networking in the sector.
Program Officer February 2003 – November 2005
Oxfam – Malawi



Responsible for project development, planning, design, management and implementation of Oxfam’s water and sanitation program in 3 districts in Malawi. Worked with partners and communities to address water supply and sanitation challenges. Ensured that all initiatives included issues of gender, public health, community participation, human rights and HIV/Aids. Represented Oxfam to other NGOs and governmental authorities. Responsible for logistics, procurement and finances within the 3 districts.



Field Support Officer October 2000 – February 2003
CPAR (Canadian Physicians for Aid and Relief)



Responsible for planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluating project activities of CPAR with particular emphasis on hygiene education. Conducted needs assessments, mobilised communities to participate, networked with government and other implementing agencies, distributed field materials to communities, supervised field staff, managed finance and compiled reports for CPAR and its donors.



Field Officer January 2000 – October 2000
Freshwater Project (local Malawian NGO)



Responsible for the planning, monitoring and implementation of water projects by Freshwater. Responsibilities included facilitating borehole siting with local communities, overseeing borehole drilling, managing contracts with drillers and hydrologists, overseeing the construction of water supply aprons and hand pumps, facilitating community Operational &Maintenance, management and hygiene trainings, and supervised the construction of latrines. Responsible for reporting to Freshwater for donors.

 Determination of Fluoride levels in water and studying its effects on human teeth.
 Use of non-wheat flours in bread making for low-income people
