Finding my voice

Hello Wonderful Women of World Pulse!

I was moved to join this community when I heard Karen Quiñones-Axalan speak at a virtual Aspire conference last night.  Her message was one of the power of encouragement and how it takes a community of women to support someone out of the silence.

I have 2 daughters who simply by virtue of being female will not have the same life chances as a man. I'm sure I don't need to tell you how wrong this is.  It's my children who have encouraged me to move into the world of gender equity, so I can find and use my voice to encourage other women to find theirs and continue to even the playing field.

Two years ago I left my well paid, secure job to refocus my attention on gender equality.  I wasn't sure what this refocus would look like or where this path would lead me.  I didn't know how much money I would earn, or who I was going to meet on the way.  I didn't know if my voice would be heard.  But my personal values around equality and change drove me forward.

Today I am a co-founder of Shape Leadership.  We have a vision to transform the way you live and lead with greater confidence.  Ninety seven percent of our participants are women. Our online workshops provide brave spaces for people to share their thoughts, emotions and experiences of change.  We offer tools to support people to build their resilience and reconnect with their values and visions.  We coach women to lead with greater confidence.  We have met some incredible people from around the world who all have a story to tell and voice that needs amplifying.

Today is also world values day. As I reflect on the inspiration I heard from Karen last night and her call to action, I encourage anyone who reads my story to spend some time reconnecting with your values and to let them be your north star in life.  And if you would like some support exploring this I am here to encourage you.

This story was submitted in response to My Voice, Our Equal Future.

Welcome on board .

Hello, Kate,

Welcome to World Pulse! I'm so happy to find you here because you belong here, dear sister. It's a joy that a new voice from the UK is rising up.

Thank you for listening to my talk. A lot of those insight came from my experience of "listening" to women's stories here. Thank you for sharing your work with us. I hope you for deep connections with our sisters here.

Hugs to your daughters. We see you. We hear you. We celebrate you. Please tell us more of your stories. Looking forward to it!

Welcome again to our growing sisterhood!

Welcome to World Pulse. To find a community of warmth like this amongst women, was a gift to me this year too.
The Aspire conference was really inspiring and it really showed what women can do when we work together, and Karen was amazing.

I like the idea of World Values Day - so often people lose track of their values amidst the activities of life, but taking time to reconnect with values and visions is fabulous. Your workshops sound like they are so valuable.

Kate - I have a morning meditation to myself in the values I would like to govern my days - it is my guiding ideal that I try to incorporate these into my work, my relationships and my actions - love, peace, joy, strength, compassion, kindness, grace, courage, patience and gratitude.

I have found we often get wrapped up by the pressures of the world, the news of politics, the gossip of communities, and then we lose track of who we wanted to be and how we intend to live, so I developed this practice - it takes 10 minutes if I'm in a rush in the morning, just to make sure that once a day I was checking in with myself about what I valued and it has brought better balance into my days.

Hi Liana, thanks for sharing your values and practice of morning meditation, it sounds like a great way to start the day - one that we should all be aspiring to do. I'm a jogger, so I enjoy an early morning jog around my local park which gives me the space to check in with myself, like you do through your meditations. My top three values at the moment are similar to yours - patience, justice and bravery.

'Glad that sweet Karen's story motivated you to join us and thumbs up to your lovely daughters for cheering you towards gender equality. Kate how wonderful. I joined after the conference yesterday too. We met a couple of years ago at an Aspire event in London. I can’t recall if you’d left your job or not, I think you might have done. Great to find you again.

Hi Jacqui! Yes, I remember you too. I was just planning a trip around Europe in a caravan with my family. We did it and had a fantastic experience. And you are right, I had just left my job then. Are you still working as a Physiotherapist? I'd love to. hear how you have been. Kate

Congratulations Kate and welcome to World Pulse Sisters and Congratulations on writing your first story here. I am sure it will not be your last and hopefully not.
Following your dreams and striving to reach your goals is very important and more often than not it is a challenge for millions. The topic of gender equality also is vitally important and it is one in which our charity is educating women and girls about.
I hope that your path in this important causes you choose takes you beyond the North Star.
We empower women to remove the "IM" and believe and take action to "POSSIBLE"!

If I can help you or the girls and women you support please let me know. I did just try to donate to your go fund me page but it's not working - perhaps you hit your target and you are now building the centre?! I truly hope so.

Hello Kate,
A very warm welcome to the Pulse!
We are so happy you are here and glad to know you found this space after listening to our amazing Encourager Karen talk.

Congratulations for following your heart and passion. The concerns you had at the beginning were valid.

Great to know you are still keeping it going.
You are right, being born a girl is already a disadvantage in a world which seems to.glorify one gender over another and that's why we have to raise our collective voices to increase the pulse on the need to listen to women voices.

You are in the right place. Looking forward to reading more from you.
