You and I

You and I seem so different, we have not the same beliefs and do not speak the same way.

You and I seem so different, me living in my run-down shack and you in your beautiful home.

You and I seem so different, but we aren't really that different. You see, we both have hearts and are capable of love. We both have red blood cruising through our veins. We both have voices, each used- even if not always heard.

But over and above that, our lives are interwoven into the fabric of our shared humanity. Whether or not you choose to see it, my suffering is yours. I stand here not raising my hands in supplication asking for charity, but rather seeking your solidarity. Take my hand and let us move forward side by side, seeking justice not only for ourselves, but humanity at large...
