Sexual violence in Kakamega

Child abuse is pronounced in Kakamega county with most cases involving relatives of the affected children. This has resulted to very few about 17 cases being concluded in court despite as many as over 200 cases having been reported to police due to fear of quarrels among the relatives many cases were withdrawn or terminated prematurely due to the victims or witnesses to testify in the court.

Abused children have abandoned school and run away from home to go to Nairobi to be street children or house helps it has affected them physiological for those who have managed to end the case in court the mother has been sent away from her marital home and children are in a rescue centre environment not that secure.

My organization is trying to come up with a strategic plan that will recognise that addressing sexual violence requires broader engagement, concerted and coordinated efforts of a broad spectrum of actors to respond to the need to standardize service provision among service providers and provide linkages for effective referral in sexual violence response.
