Always Look For Ways to Stay Inspired to Keep the Equality Fight Going

My boyfriend and I were sitting in his car. We had been together a year and are very serious about one another. He is from Saudi Arabia. My parents chief concern with this is that he will turn his back on me and start treating me bad. While I do understand this fear, my boyfriend has said even if we have to break up he will never bring me back to Saudi Arabia with him. He has seen the way women are confined and never wants that for me. While in the car I asked him if he ever thought it would change. He said it is very, very slowly. Then I said I feel like a lot of people would want to help if they could, but no one knows what to do.

He then told me there are a lot of ways to help. One example he gave was the #stopenslavingsaudiwomen. He said that this page was one that the Saudi government kept trying to take down, but people kept making it again and reposting to it. This hashtag is one that is trying to eliminate the male guardianship rule. Now for some women, I know they see it as traditional and that is the way they want to keep it. While I respect that, it needs to be a choice, not forced upon women.

There are ways to help out all over the world. Women are constantly being cornered into situations where men have the upper hand. Not all men, there are some good ones out there. However, if men didn’t feel threatened by us, they wouldn’t care. This means we have the ability to make a huge impact on the world as well as in our separate communities.

There is a lot of talk about the presidential election in America right now. I am terrified of what will happen to my immigrant friends and boyfriend. During the elections Trump supporters threatened they were going to petition to take away women’s votes again. While I wasn’t scared that was going to happen, I was scared that there are many men who think like that still. While I am not excited that Trump won, I am more worried about how the people are splitting apart. When I go onto facebook the comments are all of rage and hate Democrat against Republican. The people need to unify again.

So overall ladies and the few gents who are on here, don’t give up. Ever. We have come a long way. Sites like this one help unify us and help us reach out to one another. Some countries may have longer to go in gender equality than others, but if we keep fighting this goal will be reached. Stay strong. Stay unified. Stay inspired.
