FEMINISM: A MAN-HATING PHILOSOPHY?

I was at the cafeteria last week with a male friend. I can't remember what we were discussing before we hit the topic, Gender Equality. I hadn't talked much on the concept and the morsel of the yam flour I already had admired before I decided to kill it gently was in my mouth when he asked if I was a feminist. I choked. That morsel almost killed me. Dry joke. But really, I was surprised! That question came unexpectedly. Can't anyone discuss about Gender Equality in peace? I was eager to know why he asked, so, I answered in the affirmative. Immediately, he stood up and was about walking away. Yes, dude was about walking on me! While he was on his feet, he asked, 'So, you don't want to marry?'...

Oops. You are surprised? Oh, you are not surprised because you have or someone close to you has seen worse or experienced something similar to that? Well, we all are in a big thing together. Every feminist is seen as a man-hater. They hate men, maybe. And they believe the future is female. They are seen as small, tiny and weak creatures who want to wipe away the big, large and strong critters from the planet earth. How would they do that? By involving in an 'unachievable' goal known as Gender Equality? They are women! The baritone voices in my head just screamed those questions now. My gawd! That is so masculine.

Gender Equality to some males, if not all, is a threat. They feel threatened by some crazy asses who tag themselves feminists. To some, these crazy ladies just don't understand what life is and they feel more troubled and threatened because these same ladies are making a life which is hard already harder. While others feel dejected, disrespected or disregarded. Maybe, these crazy asses just want attention. However they are doing it is irksome and how they are getting it seems disgusting. It's like a plate of disgust is forced down the men's throats because they feel disrespected, invisible or less appreciated whenever there is a cry of a feminist in the town. Is it not a man-hating concept?

Perhaps, Women empowerment, a means to attaining Gender Equality is not just a threat but inequality in itself. You think we have attained that equality in the world already? Could it be the reason the males feel they are competing with the females whenever they are empowered? They feel they need to tighten their shoe's lace or double up their standard. Whenever a woman is in power or empowered as it were, they just feel threatened and maybe, put on that competitive spirit. A woman is competing for the governorship election, they mutter. What does she know? Maybe, just maybe along the line, they feel relaxed. These questions make them feel relaxed; How could a woman be a CEO? She wouldn't have time for her husband or children. Who would do the cooking? Who would do the cleaning? How would she cope with her clients or customers? Such an emotional being! Such a fragile thing. She wouldn't last. She wouldn't last a minute as the President of Nigeria. Maybe, Gender Equality is just a fad. Should we allow it to trend? Even if we allow it, it can't trend for a long time.

Well, could it be that the ladies tend to give the wrong impression? Perhaps, they don't even understand the concept of Gender Equality. Maybe, they feel they deserve some attention or they are tired of being labeled housewives, cooks and weaker vessels. Perhaps, they want to take vengeance of being insulted and abused physically, emotionally, psychologically and sexually. Could it be that they just want to punish the men for cheating on them because it's believed that real men cheat. Come to think of it, who came up with that?

Maybe, in quest for their freedom, they take vengeance and men mistake it for feminism or gender equality. You know, the past was male and the present is both sexes and they are fighting for the future to be just female. Maybe, they are pained and are just waiting to unleash their anger on anything in boxers or beards. Well, could it be true that vengeance is the same as feminism or gender equality? Could it be true that gender equality is a man-hating philosophy since we all want to be a man-hater? Is it just that this SDG 5 is a joke, hence, its movement is a joke as well as the women. They are just funny individuals, you think? Maybe, it's high time we all understood what feminism and Gender Equality is all about.
