What are the best places and ways to find funding for organizations?

Over the last couple of weeks corresponding with some of the women in this Economic Empowerment group, I've learned quite a bit, both about the reality of economic empowerment in different parts of the world, and about our online community. One of the many commonalities that quite a few of this group's members share is their work in community organizations that are constantly looking for funding. For a large number of these organizations, finding sources of income is a daily struggle. Some community members try to get donations from their neighbors, others apply for international grants, and a few create business to sustain their projects. I'd like to learn more about the different sources that we have all identified and how well they work. Does anyone have a story to share about how they obtain funding for their projects? The Community Champions and myself are starting to plan some activities around this topic, so getting all of your input will be quite helpful! Feel free to either respond to this post in your comments, or to publish a new post to this Economic Empowerment group!

Great topic! I am not sure if I will ever fully figure out how to earn a steady income doing the things I am passionate about. I am on the board of a small NGO raising funds for a medical facility in Uganda. I look forward to thinking more about this and learning what others are doing.

Amy, thanks for chiming in here!  Do you have any best practices to share on how you are doing fundraising for the medical facility in Uganda?  I hope to learn from what others are doing.

Hey Leana, this resource might be useful: http://fundsforngos.org/. They publish different funding opportunities across various categories.

I've also found private initiatives, such as through CSR programs and pitching competitions, a fantastic way to source funds, if your project is the right fit for the funder's portfolio.

Would love to jump into any activities you ladies are cooking up!
