comments sections show a lot about our contry's mentality

Instead of my usual style of posting about a particular issue, I am going to post about comments sections. I have noticed that the comments section is a tell tale sign of the current mentality of out nation. Whenever I read a post about abortion, gay rights, birth control, health care, and any other so called \"controversial\" issues, I always read the comments section. those of you who use the Internet know how appalling the comments on any given article can be. They go from respectfully disagreeing and nicely explaining why to threats of rape and murder. Why the extremes? I have learned that whenever you say something that threatens someone losing their power, they go ape shit for lack of a better term. What you really see is how sexist, racist, and straight up bigoted a lot of people are. Every comment they make is full of douchebagedness, but I will sort and label them for you and explain the statement further.

\"People like you live off the system while us honest hard working Americans foot the bill\" - This is commonly used when the comment section is in regards to an article about something to do with taxes, welfare, health care, and generally anything the government does or is proposing. The thing is that people think that their direct money goes to everything. They might only pay $300 a year in taxes, but they still believe that their $300 is funding everything they are against. Case in point, people are arguing now about how abortion is not covered by government issued insurance or government assisted insurance. The argument on the side of pro-choice people is that abortion should be covered since women who are living in poverty are more likely to have unplanned pregnancies (lack of resources to get information and birth control). (Pro-choice people are also arguing that all insurance companies should cover abortion since it is a medical procedure.) Either way, anti-choice people usually flip their lid when they hear this. Their rebuttal is that their tax dollars (because that $300 could single handily pay for every abortion in their state) should not be spent on abortion if they are against it. Well fine, I do not want my tax dollars funding the war, the bailout for the crybaby corporations that fucked the economy in the first place, or in the pockets of politicians who are paying for their mistresses. But hey, in reality, I accept that my measly tax dollars go to a lot of different places. All of your tax money does not end up in one particular sector of the government. So get a grip people. Also, the people who say this totally ignore the fact that there are people who do want their tax money going towards insurance for the poor and funding abortions. Some of us are pro-choice do not forget. But what they also mean by this statement is that if we are against their views, we must be lazy pieces of shit who just sit on our asses all day collecting money form the government. Well sorry but I work two jobs and go to school full time and pay my taxes so my opinion is just as valid (if not more because I am not a misogynistic sexist pig) and I say insurance should cover abortions. These people also assume that their job and money is \"honestly\" earned by \"good ol' American hard work\". As opposed to us dirty liberals who fund the money out of our clients accounts while getting tax breaks and incentives from the government , oh wait we did not do that........\"good ol' American Republicans did.....

\"Women need to be controlled because they will just fuck everyone in sight and just go sex crazy\"- Apparently, my libido and vagina cannot be controlled. They are just laying dormant until the opportunity arises to go crazy and screw everything that has a penis. (In a sexist mind, every \"slutty\" woman is heterosexual only). This rhetoric is used usually when in response to abortion, birth control, feminism, actually really anything to do with women (because when you use the \"slut\" card apparently we shut right up). The thought behind this is women need to get married and have babies. If we do anything besides this, say get an education or not have kids or say that marriage is a patriarchy tradition used to control women, we are the assholes. Not to mention sluts, not I posted yesterday about why the name slurs for women are used to control us . But to reiterate, these names are used to \"put us in our place\". When we hear the word slut or whore or anything like that, we are supposed to shrivel up back into the kitchen where we will stay pregnant and barefoot and not peep a word of dissent ever! Well I say fuck that! Call me a slut, that means that I am threatening your intelligence and power and you are using childish insults to shut me up. That means I have gotten to you. The whole running around being a slut thing also proposed that women cannot keep our sexuality in check. Rather, that our sexuality and ourselves are two separate entities that do no co-exist or communicate. Therefore, outside barriers need to to curtail our sexualities form controlling us and going wild! Bullshit. Women can be sexual as much as they want and there is nothing wrong with that . Again, WOMEN CAN BE AS SEXUAL AS THEY WANT THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT! All I recommend is being safe. (testing, condoms, exct.) This response is also used when arguing against abortion, because apparently women who have sex want to just keep screwing around and having as many abortions as possible verses the easier method of using birth control. Apparently there is a contest amongst the pro-choice women who can have the most abortions?

\"God says, the Bible says\"- This statement assumes 1. They know exactly what their God says and wants. 2. Everyone else gives a shit what their God says/wants. 3. Their God takes precedence over other people's Gods.

All in all, these statements show that people have a seriously warped view on social change and social movements.
