descriptions not definitions!

In my life there have been moments. Some of these moments seemed insignificant at the time, while others, they were despicable. These moments, wonderful or terrible, big or small, they are all part of my path. I hope you will walk a little of it with me. In high school I wanted to play soccer but we had no team for girls. I started one, even though I was told it couldn’t be done, and I fell in love with positive social change. That soccer team is now the pride of the school! I have long since graduated, but the team is still playing, keeping girls off of drugs and out of trouble, connecting them with opportunities. This experience showed me what is possible when one does not accept the status quo! The exponential impact of positive social change is contagious. Like the ripple effect of a raindrop, there is a bigger impact to be made by any one person when they try. I want all women to try. But I know it is not easy.

I fought my home environment to go to graduate school, and once there became a statistic of female violence. I refuse to let it define me though, or abandon my dreams for positive social change and women’s empowerment in science. These experiences shaped my path in life and I have worked very hard to achieve my current position; one that enables policy and positive social change through scientific analysis. Several years ago I decided I needed more education to bring about responsible positive community change and found international relations, a missing puzzle piece to my profession and my passion.

This education has opened my world in ways I couldn’t imagine and led me to World Pulse. After attending a talk by Nobel Peace Prize winner Jody Williams at school, I \"liked\" the Nobel women's organization on Facebook. In a random moment of browsing I saw that the Nobel Women’s Initiative organization had posted about the World Pulse application for 2013 Voices Rising. With only hours to go before the deadline and the hope of social media education I applied.
The timing is uncanny. I have dreamt of starting a blog that encourages global community, women, diversity, and Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) through nontraditional means. I dream of a place where women can be themselves, learn about their power and potential, and have fun doing it! Recently, I was invited to speak about STEM resources for state education. There will be hundreds of people in attendance. I realized this was a platform, a captive audience that will receive information on STEM education. This is my chance to make my blog dream a reality; I have created it and will go public when I speak later this summer. I know nothing about journalism or social media, but I know that World Pulse Does have this knowledge, that social media is vital to womens progress and that I can be taught to electronically empower!!
