Student-Police Dialogue



As part of Addressing Shrinking Civic Spaces in communities in Kenya, Haki Nawiri Afrika with support from Innovation for Change organised a session with students and police officers.The objective of the dialogue were to create spaces for sharing of legal , justice and human rights concerns from a student's perspective, discuss justice procedures from a police officer perspective, deliberate on role of youth during Kenya's upcoming general elections , explore solutions to the identified legal and human rights concerns and to establish meaningful relationships between students and the police.The forum was held on 22 January 2022.

The main issues of concern from the students were:

-Insecurity

-Police brutality

-Effective communication with the police

-Bias on crime( assumed to be more male inclined)

Labelling of students with dreadlocks as criminals

Handling students
