The Access we often fail to discuss and activate.

Access! We hear the term being used all the time especially when it comes to working with women. The question is do women have access? And how do women who have access make room for other women who do not have access? Many women continue to be downtrodden and oppressed and women must understand the notion of access and that notion ought to become active in all our lives. As women, we have a right to access resources which will enable us to have opportunities to advance. Most times we talk about access to other people to help us acquire something or we speak about access to things but rarely do we speak about access to financial resources.

In reality, many women recoil when the words 'finances or money' is brought up for discussion. We need financial access to engage in advocacy, acquire an education, develop and maintain a business, to travel, to purchase personal items, to access the internet, to purchase a mobile device and to maintain our health and well-being.

Access to financial resources is a key component in the process of empowering women and being emancipated from poverty, oppression and slavery. Without access to financial resources women are hindered from advancing experience various challenges even with maintaining employment, accessing adequate health care is limited and the options of becoming entrepreneurs are significantly reduced. Financial access alone will not solve all the challenges which women face but it will provide support for them to advance. Gaining financial and business skills are important for self-sufficiency and progress.

The question is how many of our sisters are willing to engage in discussions around financial access and be honest about it? How many would say \"I am struggling as a result of lack\" and how many of our sisters would open the doors for more of their sisters to walk through and advance. In a world which is driven by education, empowering women and girls in this area will change the life dynamics for many women and open possibilities for women to become entrepreneurs.
