I am Lina Sagaral Reyes, an independent journalist, poet, researcher and mental-health advocate based in Cagayan de Oro City, Mindanao, The Philippines. Iam one of the three Community Champions for this Gender-based Violence group in the next six months till January 2016.
On World Pulse, I am known as libudsuroy, a term in the Cebuano language that is made up of two verbs, libud that literally translates in English as “to go around (as in a procession, as in peddling and hawking), and suroy, meaning, "to traipse, meander, leisurely walk". Translation dictionaries often saythe local neologism means “vagabond, tramp” in English. I use the noun to describe my numinous state of being in order to re-claim the noun, to mean, “wandering wonderer”.
As I have noted in a post for the recent #ThePath/Full Participation call to action, I have been acquainted with GBV’s many guises and disguises as a journalist and as a person of lived experience of mental health issues. Through those experiences, I also bore witness to the solutions-oriented responses and celebratory resistance to all forms of violence.
I see my role as Community Champion here assupportive ofthe inclusion and highlighting of the many and diverse voices around the world that has converged in this wonderful virtual community that is our very own World Pulse.
I welcome everyone who has come to the threshhold of this group. Together with my fellow champions,Nakinti and Olotusin, I will strive tohear you, andwill continue tolisten and honorevery storyin this safe space as we attend to and engage with each other. Together, I know, we will be Uproarious.
