In early 2015, the inaugural World Pulse Community Champions pioneered a new way of interacting on WorldPulse.com, leading the new Economic Empowerment and Leadership groups.
From championing causes to spearheading movements within groups, from listening in on discussions to welcoming new members, these four champions have strengthened and grown the World Pulse Online Community.
World Pulse extends a heartfelt thank you to Maria Chona Lasaca, Phionah Musumba, Dudziro Nhengu, and Olanike Olugboji for forging new territory and serving as the first Community Champions from January to July 2015.
“They have been leading exemplars of what the World Pulse community stands for and what sisterhood can look like,” says Eliza Gilmore, Online Community Lead. “I hope that this program can grow and be a catalyst for movement building and connections on World Pulse.”
As a co-leader of the Economic Empowerment group, Maria Chona from the Philippines consistently welcomed new members and provided supportive, inquisitive comments. With her, Phionah from Kenya led by example, contributing a powerful Path to Participation submission.
In her co-facilitation of the Leadership group, Dudziro from Zimbabwe posted numerous journal contributions covering a variety of leadership topics. In partnership, Olanike from Nigeria wore many hats as a strong connector, strategic thinker and welcomer.
“The Community Champions provided sincere and consistent encouragement for one another, which was a beautiful thing to witness,” Eliza says. “The sisterhood that they grew was such a precious and lovely part of it all.”
Tiffany Purn, Community and Training Program Manager, recalls how the Community Champions “explored challenging topics in honest and deeply personal ways, with an unshakable passion and the courage to question.”
Along with the champions, four mentors provided endless support and encouragement to the first Community Champion program, helping champions to craft and hone their visions. World Pulse sends deep gratitude to these mentors, including Debra Engle,Robyn Lui,Elaine Millam, and Victoria Gonin.
The Community Champion program will continue to grow, multiplying World Pulse’s ability to connect women to one another and to impact the world.
“I hope that this inaugural group of Community Champions have the pleasure of seeing the program grow beyond what they could have ever imagined, knowing that they planted the seeds,” Tiffany says.
