IWD2020: Taking the teen mothers through the World Pulse community and help them log on (1/4)

On IWD 2020 we empowered 10 teenage mothers by giving them life skills and building the confidence they need to be successful in life, an opportunity to go back to school and join the institution of higher learning to be economically empowered. We are addressing illiteracy, underage pregnancy, HIV/AIDS in Mtwapa-Kilifi county - Kenya.

We empowered Teen mothers through basic life skills training and computer technology. From our assessment, these community programs have an immediate impact.

"I completed my high school education and managed to score good grade despite being pregnant at the time, due to financial constraints, I have not been able to join the Polytechnic up to date, Smiles of Hope Kenya is helping me get my career back" Quoted one of the teen mothers

Hi Jess, with technology you never go wrong. I also shared with them vital information about world pulse, some of them have smartphones and soon they will join. We are exploring different avenues where they can get skills. Thanks for your kind words

Hi Elizabeth- that’s awesome!! Can you access coursera or Edx?! They offer some free online courses that at least might help identify some interests these young women have? Best wishes, Jess

I am humbled, dear Sinyuy, girls are the bed rock of every society. Many do not get the opportunity of pursuing their careers in life after dropping out of school due to pregnancy, but we should always ready to give a second chance. Glad to know that you have the same at heart, we can share more. God bless you

Wow - what a powerful program, Elizabeth! You're giving confidence to these these teenage mothers and providing the tools they need to move forward in their lives. It's impressive that you saw a big need and were not scared to take it on, even though it's huge - helping teen mothers go from illiteracy to learning life and technology skills. You should feel proud our your big vision and the courage you have had to jump in there and start solving these problems, you are truly giving these young women hope and a future!

I'm truly humbled. If your dream or vision does not scare you then it is not big enough hahaha I delight in taking the challenge and hoping for the best. I look forward to helping them sign and join World pulse one at a time.

Thank you Elizabeth for sharing this IWD story of creating positive change. It starts with these 10 teen mothers who will be role models themselves to our teen mothers with similar challenges. Giving them the chance to develop not only valuable skills for the workforce, but self-esteem and confidence to move forward in their lives and provide for their children in the best way.
