Woman accused for wearing trouser waivers her right!!!

I have been keenly following the story of the UN worker and Journalist Lubna Hussein who faces trial for "indecent" dressing and if found guilty could get 40 lashes. These case has taken an interesting twist with the accused waivering her immunity as a UN worker in a quest to help do away with the lashing law.

"I want to change this law, because hitting is not human, and also it does not match with Sharia law," she told the BBC.

I am no expert of religion nor am I in a position to discuss it. For me this incident takes the twist of human rights. When we bring harm to a fellow human being, then it raises concerns. We all have laws that we adhere to and respect...be they religious or country laws, but it is important that these laws do not harm us but work for our good.

Lubna believes that it is wrong for women to be subjected to lashes like wild animals and I agree with her. As a woman who strives for a violence free world for all women across the world, I urge religious leaders to re-examine some of these laws that are in place and help guard against their misuse.

As much as we respect our laws and believes, let us also show respect to our fellow human and treat them with dignity, love and respect. Because that a human right!

I laud brave women like Lubna all over the world who are ready to fight a system for the sake of women's dignity. These are the women who should be our heroines, I light a candle for you Lubna as we fight for a world where women dont face any violence. Peace!
