As I’m born in a society in which conservative ideas are embedded, it is becoming difficult create a real ideological change in them. Mostly it takes time. Many people are bound to extreme cultural, social and religious boundaries and want the others to obey themselves. The political leaders are following this madly and then it becomes a real problem which limits the freedom of public. The specific fields that I’m working women’s’ issues and ethnic integrity prove the hardships in collecting people together to direct towards a change. I’m doing my best to break language barrier between Sinhala and Tamil in my country which is a main reason for misunderstanding. Even the government is taking action for this. But the reaction of the public seems slow to go towards a stable change.

For that purpose I created my own twitter account, blog and a YouTube channel. Via the blog I’m bridging ethnic groups , and I’m planning to start free language lessons for both Sinhalese and Tamils, and via the You Tube channel I’m broadcasting Sinhala and Tamil documentaries, cultural performances, short films and much more. Fortunately the youth in my country are more interested in ethnic integrity and they tend to do creations regarding it. So via social media I publicize and share them. Even I write articles for a local English paper and then share my published articles via new media, which is interesting because the same article goes towards both audiences which use new media and which does not (there is a huge audience in my country which is ignorant of new media that should be addressed by other ways)

The other major problem I face is since I’m a “woman” people are not much ready to listen to me! I face lot of difficulties even like mocking when I’m reaching to an audience. One man told me women are expected to be so gentle and soft, and told I’m arrogant and strong which is not suitable for a girl. And he challenged me that I will also be like a typical Sri Lankan woman in future. I answered him that, because of becoming gentle, women failed throughout the history, and no longer are we meek and feeble.
Another thing I’m mostly doing is especially via the social media (Face Book and Twitter) I’m working as a bridge maker of my Tamil and Sinhala friends.

Using world pulse is a bless for me. I’m feeling others’ warmth towards me which is miraculous. I met the ladies who are with same interests and same wishes that are with me, and we promised each other that we all can go the success and change the world. I posted a need “regarding a project of giving IT knowledge to the rural women in Sri Lanka” that I’m planning to initiate and I received many replies, specially a lady from Uganda replied me who is doing the same project , and who is ready to share her experiences with me.
