Brigada Eskwela 2017: World Vision staff conducts training on Disaster Risk Reduction (1/6)

I joined a volunteer work facilitated by World Vision Philippines in partnership with Citi Philippines for the activity called by the Department of Education to join the Brigada Eskwela 2017 or National Schools Maintenance Week. About 70 volunteers participated at Longos Elementary School Malabon, assigned to room & hallway cleaning, plant potting, DRR or Disaster Risk Reduction Training activity and Letter Writing/Artwork.

Brigada Eskwela 2017 is an annual volunteerism. It focuses on the improvement of the surroundings of the school, making it safer for the learners and promote disaster preparedness in schools that are located in vulnerable areas.

An opportunity for companies, community members, parents, teachers, students and volunteers to help clean, repair schools or donate school supplies. The public elementary and high schools in our country will begin classes on June 5.

In our assigned activity which is the Letter Writing/Artwork, we were able to have a short sharing reflection about how went well and how they felt engaging with the kids. One volunteer said, “I felt bless because I had the opportunity to spend time with these kids and reminds me of my childhood when I was the same age like them.“

Despite many challenges my country is facing whether, in politics, education, poverty, population, traffic and other things, there are still hope for every Filipino to achieve great things. What we can do is for everyone to “Work Together for the Better”

Dear Maeann, Thank you for documenting the Brigada Eskwela in Malabon. Truly, caring for the schools that nurture the coming generations in this way reflects our bayanihan spirit. It is great to know you had been in the midst of it all.

Hi libudsuroy, actually I never thought that this Brigada Eskwela has been going on every year.  Good thing that I started involving in my community to volunteer at least I am meeting new friends, doing something for my country in my little ways.

Helo Heri.  education is the key to be aware.  It should be given to every children who are growing.  It is their rights. The same thing that we had our education when we were young, we should also provide education to the younger generation.  Let us not loss hope.  We will strive for their good future.
