Our family healing circle: Let's remember to start from home

Self awareness and self acknowledgment are very important tools

When you know better you do better
When you know better you do better

Home for me is where the heart is. My heart is with me and with my 4 kids, and that's my home. I decided to always make my home first, to work for it's healing first and not show up for the world neglecting any problem at HOME.

I introduced family healing circles 4 years ago when my first son aged 13 at the time, was having some hormonal changes into teenage hood and I just wasn't going to pull out my hair.

We all sit round the table and share with whoever is having some challenges. We tell them what we love and miss about them, and we hold space for them as they share with us too.

Last Sunday, my last son aged 11 got me to plan a FHC. He had gotten into a fight during a football game and I was only woken up later on and told he hadn't let it be as I advised, but had taken a matchet to his friend's house while the friend pulled out a knife. I knew beating him and shouting and ostracizing him wasn't going to help neither him nor each of us. We talked and agreed that we would go together to the friend's house and make peace the next day after school, and then we will all sit down on the table later in the evening for a FHC.

It went as agreed and my son felt so much better thereafter. I was relieved too and knew it had nothing to do with my 'failure or success' as a single parent.

Not only did my son make some commitments based on his own analysis, but we all committed to support him and each other through it all.

May we always remember to start our impact from HOME.

And of course, we can always start again and again and again.

Light & Love
