An appeal to the Government of Sudan, to stop violence against women

I've read Halima's article,

and am, I confess, horrified.

Why is this still possible, in 21th century?

The World is striving to define the International Violence Against Women Act, and meanwhile so many people is still afraid of women basic freedom?

This is not a problem specific to Sudan, and my beloved Italy is not without big sins.

However, what happens in Sudan looks me so horrible, because I just see in it a manifestation of fear.

Institutions may have fear, I see. In Italy too. As awkward might this seem, that big powerful people may feel threatened by the desire of freedom is, at least in part, understandable.

There are a lot of stakes, of privileges to lose, of revenges to be afraid of.

I understand that all.

But we humans, in front of our fear, can exert the art of courage.

I say "art", because the true courage in my view does not come from unawareness of some real danger or the will to take risks just to have some thrill (that's bare stupidity, very diffused, yet stupidity). No. In comes from confronting one own fears, understanding them, and stepping over.

This, I understand, is what is needed. An act of courage.

The understanding of what is to me quite an obvious fact, that women and human beings as men. That being born a man, or a woman, is just matter of chance. That the marvel of being so can only be accepted and understood, but not controlled by our will.

To realize that the will of being free, to honor life, and to thrive in peace are all human needs, not the specific endeavour of men, or women, alone.

To accept that women do not want to "dominate" (as some men seem so frightened of), but just to exist, and be able to contribute.

Would women contribution not turn to advantage to anyone?

If these are frightening things to you, then you need courage to cope with them.

Putting your head within sand, and continuing with gratuitous violence, will not solve your problems.

In love, and respect.
ESPECIALLY to the courageous.
