Who is a feminist

We live in a society where people are afraid of the word feminist.. most people are feminist but don't even know they are..some people know they are feminist but don't want to be identify as one.men and women are feminist in their own ways but are actually ignorant about it...to me , any time you stand against any form of oppression against a woman. .just know you are a feminist..in a conclusion. .each time you get pissed off in the face of oppression or subordination against a woman.. you are gradually turning into a feminist...The word feminist and feminism should not scare you!!!

Hi Mba. Thanks for sharing your post about the term "feminism." I agree that it's quite possible that a lot of women and men are already feminists but don't want to admit because the term has gotten such a bad rap. I see it more as equality, rather than oppression because oppression is a part of it, but men/boys can also be oppressed.

Dear mba,

I am so glad that you raised this. In the 1980's here in Canada as we began to really raise our voices especially against the violence that women experience, as well as all the unfair conditions we face, we were blasted publicly with so many negative interpretations of the word feminist. The word simply means belief in freedom and equality for women. That we are so punished for identifying with the word has made many distance themselves from it, sadly. Even women who have benefitted from changes have joined the denigration of the word, often to keep their jobs or protect themselves from being seen as "negative".  "each time you get pissed off in the face of  oppression  or subordination against a woman.. you are gradually turning into a feminist" Yes! Thank you for reclaiming the real meaning of this word.

yes, it is surely sad that people are afraid of the word "feminist". If you look up the definition of "feminazi" it says "radical feminist". We are largely a hated group of people. Male patriarchs have done their very best to make sure that strong women and sisterhood (and mother goddess religions) ceases to exist. But the good news is that they have already lost the battle and while things might get worse before they get better over the next few years, please believe that when we hit rock bottom, there's only one way to go and thats UP! Women will rule the world sooner than people think. Keep it up! much love!
