Grounding is the act of becoming present to your physical body. In this time of arousal, we are many to be dwelling in non-stop thinking, unspoken rage, heightened fears of the unknown and possibilities of irrevocable lost, pains and wounds.
In this time of arousal, we may either freeze or fright, this is what happens in hypo arousal. This feeling of stuckness, numbness.
We may also oscillate to hyper arousal whether our flight or fight is on high intensity.
The physical body is the first compass that speaks to us
Pause | Breathe | Listen
Start becoming present to your body’s wisdom.
Our body has deep wisdom to offer if only we pause and listen.
Our sense organs have much to teach us and support us in this process of grounding and walking our way to our sense of inner safety.
To move, to shift, to transform, to create, to support, to be, to do , any act whether be it through presence or doing, starts with grounding.
However, whatever, wherever, whenever, whyever, whoever , we define “SAFE”, safe cannot happen without Grounding.
The sense of SAFE| SAFETY is an internal business.
Without BOUDARIES there is no SAFETY.
Know that our boundaries have to be voiced when speaking with and to others, if need be, repeated over and over again.
Our boundaries with self are to be named equally.
Overwhelming in this moment of uncertainly is normal.
May we be reminded to embrace this overwhelming
May we be reminded that our container is strong and we are being held
As often as needed, move back to holding yourself , your hands on your body
May this act of holding self, whisper that which you need most in this moment
A simple grounding Exercise
The simplest act of breathing and move your attention to your hands, touching your hands, looking at your feet. A simple exercise, start becoming present to our hands and feet. Pressing our hands, walking with deep awareness on our feet. Each time, panic rises, pause and press your palms, touch your fingers and become aware of nature within your nature. Please find link to a simple grounding exercise and feel free to repeat same over and over again in coming days. You may want to guide your kids, your close ones and your family through this exercise.
